Laboratorio sulle disuguaglianze (LSD) was established in 2018 with the aim of bringing together and giving visibility to researchers from the Department of Social, Political and Cognitive Sciences (Dispoc) engaged in research and action-research activities on issues such as poverty, migration, vulnerability, social exclusion, health, and social sustainability. The distinctive feature of the Laboratory lies in its ability to combine scientific and methodological rigor with activities supporting decision-making processes and the design of social policies and interventions aimed at promoting social change and reducing inequalities.
The activities of Laboratorio sulle disuguaglianze are addressed to public and private institutions interested in integrating policy and programming activities with research-based evidence. The Laboratory also serves as a forum for discussion and collaboration for students, recent graduates, and young researchers wishing to explore issues related to social inequalities and sustainability.
Laboratorio sulle disuguaglianze offers Master's degree students the opportunity to collaborate on research projects and gain experience in the Laboratory’s main areas of work.
Over the years, Laboratorio sulle disuguaglianze has participated in numerous research projects and collaborated with various public and private entities, including the Tuscany Region, USL Toscana Sud-Est, Anci-Federsanità Toscana, Coeso Grosseto, Coldiretti Toscana, and the Fondazione Antico Ospedale Santa Maria della Scala. As part of its third mission, the Laboratory promotes scientific dissemination and public engagement initiatives — such as its annual participation in BRIGHT-NIGHT, the European Researchers' Night — and career orientation, with activities aimed at upper secondary schools.
