“Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA): an introduction"

Edoardo Guaschino (Université de Lausanne)

The seminar is offered as a brief introduction to a technique often used in the social sciences: Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA). QCA is a research method that allows for the examination of complex relationships between variables in social sciences. It combines qualitative and quantitative approaches to identify patterns and configurations that lead to specific outcomes. QCA aims to uncover the necessary and sufficient conditions for an outcome to occur by analyzing multiple cases and comparing their combinations of causal factors. This method provides a systematic framework for understanding the complexity of social phenomena and has applications in various fields such as sociology, political science, and management studies.
